BD has manufactured the Mettsass table, which was originally designed by Ettore Sottsass in Barcelona in 1972. The structure of the table is crafted from flat sheets of steel painted in red RAL 3001. The glass is also painted in the same shade as the structure. With the same dimensions and color scheme as the original design, the table has retained its distinctive character that Sottsass imbued into it 40 years ago. Ettore Sottsass was a renowned Italian architect and designer who specialized in crafting exquisite furniture, jewelry, glass, lighting, and office machine designs. He gained fame by working as a design consultant for Olivetti, designing office equipment, typewriters, and furniture. Together with Mario Tchou and Roberto Olivetti, Sottsass won the prestigious 1960 Compasso d'Oro award with the Elea 9003, the first Italian mainframe computer. In the 1980s, Sottsass founded Sottsass Associati, a major design consultancy specializing in architecture, elaborate stores and showrooms for Esprit, and identities for Alessi, among others. Today, Sottsass Associati continues to advance the studio's work, philosophy, and culture.
