This set of 6 armchairs by Ettore Sottsass is both fabulous and authentic. Sottsass, an Austrian-born Italian designer, gained widespread acclaim in the 1980s for his colorful and boldly idiosyncratic postmodern furniture designs for Memphis. One of his most notable designs is the Mandarin chair, which features a distinctive one-piece arm-rail that elegantly wraps around the seat and back, reminiscent of Thonet's design. These chairs are a fantastic representation of Sottsass's work and his importance as the founder of the Memphis Group in Milan in 1980. Each chair features green fabric with a cubist pattern in various shades of beige, blue, and green. The tubular steel structure is painted in high-gloss black, and the square seat and curved backrest are padded with polyurethane foam and covered with black woven cloth. The undulating arms are a defining characteristic of the Mandarin chair. All six chairs are authentic and come with Knoll labels attached under the seat. They were manufactured in 2001 in Pennsylvania, USA. Each chair measures 32.5" in height, 26" in width, and 23" in depth, with a seat height of 17.5". In short, these Sottsass Mandarin armchairs are a stunning example of his design prowess and would make a lovely addition to any space.
