This wooden coat or hat rack features eight painted metal hooks in a round shape, reminiscent of miniature archery targets with hints of red and yellow. It was originally designed by the renowned Ettore Sottsass in the 1950s, and produced by Italy's Poltronova. Sottsass, the son of an architect, studied in Turin before establishing his own practice in Milan, where he became interested in industrial and interior design. He was known for his expressive use of color and individualistic approach to design, which drastically set him apart from the Rationalist movement of his time. Sottsass went on to produce iconic designs for Olivetti, including typewriters like the Praxis 48, Lettera 36, and Valentine, as well as the Elea 9003, Italy's first computer. He continued to experiment with new avant-garde movements, eventually becoming a founding member of the Memphis group, and developing his own practice, Sottsass Associati.
