Knoll presents a remarkable set of six executive armchairs designed by renowned Mid-Century Modernist, Eero Saarinen. Saarinen's career began at Yale University, and after his European studies and travels, he briefly taught at Cranbrook, where he served as director in 1932. Cranbrook's alumni included famed designers Charles Eames and Florence Schust Knoll, with whom Saarinen collaborated on numerous projects. Their furniture pieces earned first prize at the "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1940. However, after 1946, Eames left to work for Herman Miller, while Saarinen continued with his association with Knoll Associates. Many of Saarinen's chairs for Knoll have become iconic in 20th century design history. This set of six vintage Eero Saarinen executive armchairs for Knoll was first introduced in 1957 and later received the Federal Award for industrial design in 1969. The chairs boast original Knoll fabric upholstery, featuring a solid seat and a patterned back, with sleek chrome legs completing the overall chic appearance.
