For nearly seven decades, the saarinen executive chair has been featured in almost all of Florence Knoll's interior designs and has remained one of her most popular creations. This chair broke the mold of traditional executive seating with its modern finishing and sculptural form, and is now commonly found in both offices and dining rooms. This early set exhibits nails that were used to attach the rear panel to the chair, a feature that was later replaced with hidden clamps. Despite its age, the set remains in excellent vintage condition, with its original parts still intact. Eero Saarinen, the Finnish-American architect and industrial designer behind this chair, was renowned for his innovative designs and unique style that incorporated sweeping, sculptural forms. Among his most notable works are the TWA Flight Center in New York City, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and the General Motors Technical Center in Michigan. Alongside his architecture, Saarinen also designed iconic furniture such as the Womb Chair and the Tulip Chair, always prioritizing a seamless marriage of form and function to create an immersive user experience. His influence on the design world continues to be felt today.
