De Bortoli is a large and important, family-owned Australian wine producer based in the Riverina region of New South Wales. It makes a wide range of wines from around the country from classic Australian varieties. However, De Bortoli is most famous for its flagship wine, the botrytis-affected Noble One Semillon, unquestionably one of the most highly regarded and best-known dessert wines from the New World. The estate was founded in 1928 by immigrants from northern Italy, and came into its own under the leadership of Deen de Bortoli (1936-2003), a leading figure in the Australian wine industry in the 20th Century. Today, De Bortoli is owned and operated by the third generation of the family, members of which are involved in everything from viticulture to export. De Bortoli has vineyards in numerous Australian regions, the most famous being at Riverina, where Noble One is made, along with a range of other wines. There are also 240 hectares (595 acres) of vineyards in the Yarra Valley and 180 hectares (445 acres) in the King Valley. As well as this, De Bortoli has vineyards in Heathcote, Rutherglen and the Hunter Valley.
