Citroën Type A was the first-ever car model produced by the French automobile manufacturer Citroën in 1919. It was a compact five-seater sedan car with a 1.3-liter four-cylinder water-cooled engine that could generate 18 horsepower, allowing it to reach a top speed of 65 km/h (40 mph). The Type A featured a four-speed manual transmission with a reverse gear and drum brakes on all wheels. It had a unique front-wheel-drive layout that made it more agile and efficient than its competitors. The car's chassis was made of pressed steel and had a wheelbase of 2,500 mm, providing passengers with a comfortable ride. The Citroën Type A was designed with a sleek and elegant body that reflected the art deco style popular in the 1920s. It was the first car that introduced a soft-top roof and the 'Citroën Herringbone' pattern on the grille. Although only 24,093 units were produced, the Citroën Type A marked the beginning of a significant era for the Citroën brand, setting a high standard of innovation and modernity in the automobile industry.
