This exceptional collection comprises a scarce grouping of six original Charlotte Perriand Meribel chairs from the first production run. Made by George Blanchon (B.C.B) around 1948, these chairs have remained entirely unaltered to this day, boasting a stunning patina that exemplifies their beauty. Unique to the B.C.B version, the back leg features a subtle bend, while the seat back is crafted from two pieces of solid ash. Every joint has dowels to reinforce the structure, providing a gorgeous rhythmic detail to the overall form. The original rush seats remain in excellent condition, retaining their sturdiness. Notably, this is a complete set, not a pieced together assembly. It is intriguing to observe the evolution of the Meribel chair, which appears like conventional Alpine furniture at first glance but stands out as one of the most welcoming pieces of modern furniture upon a closer examination - a testament to Perriand's exceptional artistry. While it is worth noting that Perriand fashioned a set earlier than this one in 1941 for Etienne Sicard's Tokyo apartment, which had cylindrical cross stretchers, that variation was not mass-produced.
