These a Charlotte Perriand-designed wall sconces for Galerie Steph Simon circa 1960 have rotating shades. They are in good original condition with minor wear that comes from age and use that only adds to their beautiful patina. Perriand, born in Paris in 1903, attended the E'cole de l'Union centrale des Arts de'coratifs from 1920-1925, and subsequently designed aluminum furniture featured at the 1927 "Salon d'Automne" in Paris. She worked with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret until 1937 and helped design the revolutionary tubular steel furnishings and system furniture they presented as "E'quipement de l'habitation" at the 1929 "Salon d'Automne." Perriand later showed solo work at the Union Des Artistes Modernes from 1931 and collaborated with Jeanneret on a mountain chalet of sheet aluminium in 1937, followed by plans for prefab houses made of the same material. In 1940, Perriand became a design consultant to the Japanese Board of Trade and stayed in Japan until 1946 where she discovered a new appreciation for the Japanese feeling for form, which can be seen in her 1953 "Synthe`se des Arts" chair.
