Charlotte Perriand designed these Wall sconces with rotating shades around 1960. Despite minor wear that is consistent with age and use, these pieces are in their original condition and boast a lovely patina. The sconces are made from metal and measure D 7 cm x W 17 cm x H 12 cm each. Born in Paris in 1903, Charlotte Perriand attended the E'cole de l'Union centrale des Arts de'coratifs from 1920-1925. She is best known for her work with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret until 1937, during which time she designed furniture made of anodized aluminium and chromium-plated steel. The three designers presented their tubular steel furnishings and system furniture at the 1929 "Salon d'Automne," where they made a significant impact. Afterward, Charlotte Perriand showed her own work solo and collaborated with Pierre Jeanneret on several projects, including designing mountain chalets made of sheet aluminium and prefab houses made of aluminium. In 1940, she became a design consultant to the Japanese Board of Trade, living in Japan until 1946. As reflected in the 1953 chair "Synthe`se des Arts," her later designs reveal a Japanese influence in their form.
