This side table with drawer was designed by Charlotte Perriand and comes from Cite Cansado, Mauritania. The piece is made from a combination of wood, plastic laminated covered wood, lacquered metal and fabric and is in good original condition with only minor wear consistent with its age and use, giving it a beautiful patina. The cushions have been recreated to the original measurements using high-quality wool fabric. Charlotte Perriand was a renowned designer born in Paris in 1903 who trained at the E'cole de l'Union centrale des Arts de'coratifs. She collaborated with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, contributing to the creation of tubular steel furnishings and system furniture presented at the 1929 "Salon d'Automne." She also showed her own work as part of the countermovement Union Des Artistes Modernes (UAM) and later worked on projects such as a mountain chalet made of sheet aluminium. Her designs were influenced by her time living in Japan and the 1953 chair "Synthe`se des Arts" reflects this influence beautifully.
