The Meribel stool model, initially designed by Charlotte Perriand between 1953 and 1961, has been relaunched by Cassina in 2011. It is made of natural oak and manufactured in Italy. Drawing inspiration from architecture and mountain life, the stool comes in two historic low tables that were inspired by the milking stool used by mountain shepherds as well as a French town beloved by the designer. The simple shapes and use of solid wood create a pleasant sense of softness and natural variations in the wood, making each piece unique. Charlotte Perriand was a significant contributor to the avant-garde cultural movement that instigated a notable change in aesthetic values, emphasizing the creation of new ways of living. On the other hand, Cassina has created a vast collection revisiting designs from prominent architects in the 20th century while preserving their functional concepts and using evolved technology. The company has manufactured iconic pieces of contemporary design, and it continues to maintain an open, holistic approach towards furnishing living and dining spaces.
