This DTW-3 table boasts a walnut veneer top and maple legs that can be detached, and it's in excellent original condition. It's a rare and highly sought-after piece for true Eames enthusiasts, as it's harder to come by than Evans LCW or Zenith rope edge chairs. This particular example is unique because it's shorter than most and has a different type of leg attachment. The table is stamped with the DTW3 designation. The second generation of the DTW line was introduced in 1950 as a replacement for the Eames Tapered Leg DTW table. The abbreviation stands for Dining (D) Table (T) in Wood (W). This revamped version of the DTW featured a completely different look that was more in line with the metal leg table (DTM) by using the same tops and changing the bases. This concept of interchangeable bases is a recurring theme in Eames furniture, spanning across their plywood, fiberglass, and Alu group ranges. The previous DTW iteration was unrelated to any other designs. The legs of the DTW were transformed from 90-degree plywood forms into sleek circular wooden designs that offered more contemporary appeal and better stability. Although not foldable like its DTM equivalent, the legs could be easily removed for storage purposes. The DTW tops were available in either natural veneers (Walnut, Birch, or Ash) or coated plastics (white or grey). Herman Miller produced the DTW tables until 1957.
