The DAR Eiffel chair, created by the talented duo of Charles and Ray Eames, is an iconic piece of furniture that has gained worldwide acclaim. It features a wire base that was inspired by the Eiffel Tower. The first generation of this chair, produced in 1950, was distinguished by its rope-edge shell and unique 1st gen feet that were different from later versions. The Eames DAR Chair was designed as part of the Eames armchair series, which was launched in 1950. This series was the result of a joint effort between the Eames Office, Zenith Plastics, and Herman Miller. The series was designed to be versatile, with the ability to interchange bases. The DAR chair was one of the original designs and belonged to a group of five chairs that included the DAX X-base, LAR cats cradle, RAR Rocker and DAW dowel chair. As the popularity of the Eames armchairs grew in the 60s, changes were made to accommodate a changing market. The R-base type was discontinued in 1967, yet has been re-issued since 2001. This stunning piece would certainly be a delightful addition to any museum collection with its original parts and early sticker label, demonstrating its authenticity.
