In 1929, the narrative of Chanel's Classic Flap bag began. Its founder, Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel, was a visionary, independent woman. While most women were content carrying their bags as clutches, Coco desired freedom. She wanted her hands to be free to do as she pleased. Out of this desire, the Classic Flap was born. In February of 1955, the design was revisited, giving birth to the iconic 2.55 moniker. During the '80s, the unmistakable interlocking CC turn-lock, designed by then-creative director Karl Lagerfeld, replaced Coco's original Mademoiselle lock. Lagerfeld also introduced the leather-and-chain straps in the same decade. Over the years, this model underwent reinvention, leading to the Classic Flap we know today.
