Critic tasting note: "Mundus Bacillus is the most extreme, most radical of this series of 3 malbecs, each from a specific block of Catena’s Gualtallary VIneyard. According to winemaker Alejandro VIgil, the malbec for this Mundus comes from the bacterial world that exists in that little 1.4-hectare piece of vineyard and represents the symbiosis between that molecular world and the roots of the vine. Although he’s not sure what it is, or whether it’s the main cause—it might also have something to do with the soil, which is the chalkiest of the three—this wine offers radiant red fruit, violet notes that explode in the glass, and, of course, acidity that makes you think of fresh, crunchy fruit, just picked from the tree. Like its companions, this wine is from the Adrianna VIneyard in what is known today as the Monasterio zone of Gualtallary. Adrianna was the first vineyard to be planted on that particular corner, that magical place more than 1,400 meters above sea level." - 97/100, Patricio Tapia - Descorchados
