Carlo Scarpa's contribution to the art of Venetian glass is exemplified through the stunning perfume bottle he created circa 1928-29 for the MVM Cappellin company, founded by Paolo Venini and Giacomo Cappellin in 1925. Scarpa's experimentation with century-old glass-making techniques gave rise to a beautiful heart-shaped bottle of emerald green glass, both transparent and translucent. The bottle boasts an elegant applied 'v' shaped belt that extends to the foot, with the model no. 018 and the acid stamp 'MVM Cappellin Murano' expertly etched into it. Scarpa's glassware remains a landmark in modernist decorative art and his collaboration with the M.V.M. Cappellin Glassworks is regarded as pioneering. As his work saw resurgence on the island of Murano, it highlighted the importance of his efforts to bring old techniques into a modern vocabulary. As seen in 'Vogue' (November, 1931, unpaginated) and Marino Barovier's book 'The M.V.M. Cappellin Glassworks and the Young Carlo Scarpa 1925-1931' (Milan, 2018, p. 118), Scarpa's contribution was indeed significant and his passion for the craft continues to inspire art enthusiasts worldwide.
