This exquisite blown Murano glass bowl in a rich green color was created by the Venini company around 1936 as part of their "Sommerso" series, designed by architect Carlo Scarpa. The series is known for its air bubbles and the use of gold leaf, which adds a touch of luxury to the already beautiful glass. The bowl bears the signature acid stamp of Venini Murano. Carlo Scarpa was born in 1906 in Venice and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he later became an assistant professor. He began collaborating with Murano glassmakers while still a student and went on to become the artistic director of Paolo Venini's glassworks in 1932. Scarpa's work was innovative and drew inspiration from the likes of Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright. He received numerous accolades for his work in architecture and was a member of several prestigious organizations. Scarpa's work has been exhibited in major museums around the world and continues to inspire artists and architects today.
