In 1973, this table was crafted by the highly regarded Italian architect and designer Carlo Scarpa, reflecting his keen architectural sensibilities and precise approach to design. The piece features a skeletal base composed of cylindrical beams, with a rectangular top fashioned from elegant grey leatherette that can be easily customized to suit individual preferences. Its substantial size and versatile design make it an ideal option for a range of functions, from conference or dining table. Carlo Scarpa was a leading modernist architect and designer born in Venice in 1906, who honed his skills at the Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown. After working with architect Francesco Rinaldo, Scarpa began teaching architectural drawing at the academy, a post he held until 1929, when his professional career began to take off. His sensitivity to materiality and detailing became well-known in the design world, particularly through his collaborations with master glass workers in Murano, where he worked as creative director from 1934 to 1947. Scarpa gained international recognition after World War II and continued to create masterpieces that were influenced by the work of architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and the design traditions of Japan. Despite his unfortunate death in 1978, Scarpa's influence continues to inspire designers today.
