The "Poliedri" chandelier, designed by Carlo Scarpa and produced by Venini in 1958, is crafted from opaline Murano glass. Scarpa was born in Venice in 1906 and began his career at a young age. He experimented with Murano glass while working for the glassmakers Cappellin & Co. and later used this knowledge to inform his architectural designs. Scarpa completed a variety of commissions after 1945, including the renovation of Venice's Cà Foscari, the Hotel Bauer, a tall building in Padua, and a residential area in Feltre. In the 1950s, he designed the Padiglione del Libro, Treviso's Gipsoteca Canoviana, and Italy's national gallery in Palermo. Scarpa was also involved in furniture and applied arts, working for Cappellin and Venini before designing furniture for Gavina SpA and SIMON. His partnership with Dino Gavina resulted in the production of iconic designs such as the "Doge" table, "Valmarana," "Cornaro," and the "Rialto" bookcase. Carlo Scarpa's last major work was the Brion Mausoleum in San VIto d'Altivole, Treviso, which he worked on until his death in 1978.
