Jacobsen commenced his training as a mason before pursuing studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts in Copenhagen and winning a silver medal for his chair design, which was displayed at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Art Decoratifs in Paris. He was heavily influenced by the functionalist philosophies of designers like Le Corbusier, Gunnar Asplund, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. From his earliest work, he sought to introduce modernist concepts to Denmark, building on the country's long-standing tradition of craft-based design to produce innovative industrial furniture. One of Jacobsen's most recognizable works is the iconic dining table with a laminate tabletop and a six-star pedestal base made from brushed aluminum, known as the Piet Hein. We currently offer a sizable collection of Series Seven chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen, available in an array of colors. Please note that chairs are sold separately.
