The Fritz Hansen manufacturer commissioned Arne Jacobsen to design this pair of Series 7 chairs in 1955. Despite their creation in 1977, their timeless, adaptable shape remains remarkable. These chairs possess an intricate and delicate form, yet maintain strength and durability due to natural veneer that has undergone nine layers of pressure-molding. Steel legs, both slim and sturdy, complement the chairs' curved profile and are positioned to easily stack. Although frequently imitated, these chairs remain iconic and are the flagship model of Fritz Hansen. The designers' authentic signatures are located beneath the seat. Arne Jacobsen, born in 1902 and deceased in 1971, was an esteemed Danish designer and architect, recognized globally for his innovative style. Jacobsen graduated from the School of Applied Arts in 1924 and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, with a degree in architecture in 1927. His most famous triumph was the Royal Hotel project in Copenhagen, where he designed every element, from cutlery to furniture. Jacobsen's recognizable sleek, contemporary style is epitomized by the AJ lamp collection created for the Royal Hotel and produced by Louis Poulsen. His iconic Swan and Egg chairs also made their debut at the Royal Hotel. Over the years, Jacobsen's style became more simplified and modern, while still being anchored in, Danish architectural traditions. Fritz Hansen, also referred to as the Republic of Fritz Hansen, is a Danish furniture design company founded in 1872 in Nakskov. From the onset, Fritz Hansen and his son Christian prioritize the superiority of their furniture, which remains a focal point of the company's mission. In the company's early years, they received a substantial number of orders based on their well-known standard of quality. During the beginning of the 20th century, Christian Hansen's experimentation with steam-bending beech wood led to the creation of laminated chairs, which ultimately became the company's specialty. Arne Jacobsen played a vital role in the 1950s by designing the renowned Ant laminated chair (1952), followed by the historic Series 7 chairs (1955) and Swan (1958) and Egg (1958) creations, all designed specifically for the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. This original vintage set, in good condition, showcases natural wear, scratches, natural patina, and cracks due to age. The seat positions forty cm from the floor and embodies elegance and class.
