This set of eight 'Oxford' chairs, designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in 1965, embodies a classic and timeless elegance. The chairs were originally created for the professors of St. Catherine's College in Oxford, as part of a larger project that included the design of the surrounding landscape and furniture. Jacobsen, who was primarily an architect before becoming a renowned furniture designer, was keen on reducing material input to achieve clean lines while maintaining technical quality and ergonomics. Interestingly, his furniture relied more on organic forms than his cubist functionalist architecture.
