In March 1967, Fritz Hansen of Denmark crafted the Original Oxford chair, commissioned by St. Catherine College. Constructed with a plywood frame, aluminum casted feet, and brand new leather, this chair showcases the skilled work of craftsmen. Arne Jacobsen, a renowned Danish architect, is responsible for the SAS Royal Hotel, constructed from 1956 to 1960. Here, he pioneered the concept of a designer hotel, creating everything from the building and its furniture to the smallest details like ashtrays and airport buses. When Oxford dons visited the SAS Hotel and Munkegård School seeking an architect for their institution, they were impressed with Jacobsen's vision and skills, entrusting him with designing everything from the building to the garden and choice of fish for the pond. The Grade I listed original college buildings showcase his unique style.
