The Grand Prix chair is a model that boasts a graphic edge and was first unveiled at the Designers' Spring Exhibition at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in 1957. Later that same year, the chair was presented at the Triennale in Milan where it was awarded the Grand Prix, the highest recognition of the exhibition. Originally named the Model 3130, the chair was renamed after receiving this distinguished prize. These iconic chairs form part of the history that has made Arne Jacobsen a renowned designer, whose furniture and other works of design are globally recognized as artistry. The shells of the chairs in this set are crafted from laminated, molded veneer, with an outer veneer made from stained beech wood. The upholstery is an elegant leather with a beautiful patina. The slim, tapered legs of each chair exhibit a subtle curvature that perfectly complements the shape of the backrest. Functionality was considered when designing this set, with the legs and backrest being created to allow for stacking. When presented as a group, the various models truly enhance the design's visual appeal. Jacobsen's brilliance was his talent for creating designs that were immediately recognizable, yet simplistic, which brought him fame and professional recognition.
