These AJ-visor wall lamps in their original dark brown lacquer were produced by Louis Poulsen in the 1960s and are a very rare early edition. Arne Jacobsen designed the "VIsor" Lamp specifically for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen back in 1957, with Louis Poulsen manufacturing it thereafter. Jacobsen's fondness of the dark brown lacquer resulted in many of his light fixtures being initially created in this particular color. The lamp emits downward-directed light, while its shade and rotation angle can be adjusted to optimize light distribution. Its inner shade is painted white to provide a soft, comfortable light. The original brass hardware and bakelite sockets define the first edition of these iconic lamps. Today, the AJ-visor lamp series is recognized as Jacobsen's most famous design worldwide. Originally it consisted of a table and a floor lamp, as well as a wall lamp, a small table lamp, and a table lamp that could be attached to the table. Rows of the wall lamp in stainless steel could be found in the hotel lobby when the SAS hotel first opened its doors in 1960. The AJ Royal pendant lamp complemented the wall lamp, forming part of the overall design concept of the hotel. Jacobsen left no detail unattended, as he designed almost all the hotel's original furniture and utility items. The straight lines and the combination of oblique and right angles in the profile of the AJ-visor lamp not only reflect the shape of the Series 3300 seats, but also that of his buildings. The lamps were used in multiple areas of the hotel and were available in light grey, dark brown, and black. Provenance-wise, these lamps were purchased directly from the family of the renowned Danish architect, Arne Wahl-Iversen, who utilized them in his studio.
