Arne Jacobsen, a visiting designer at Louis Poulsen & Co, may not have the same legacy as Poul Henningsen, but his designs remain essential to the late 1960s and 1970s aesthetic of Louis Poulsen & Co. In 1958, Jacobsen created a new lamp design specifically for the then-new Scandinavian Airlines Hotel (SAS-Hotel), now known as the AJ Royal pendant lamp or the AJ Pendlen. Originally only available in light grey, dark brown, and black, it later became available in multiple colors, including white. The AJ Royal features a wide half-globe pendant lamp with a semi-detached inner shell that separates four light bulbs from the central light bulb, creating a diffuse light up and a more concentrated light down. This particular 1970s production of the dark grey edition contains all attribution markings and remains in excellent vintage condition.
