The Armchair 'Paimio 41' created by Alvar Aalto for OY Huonekalu-ja Rakennustyötehdas in the 1960s, features lacquered birch and bent plywood construction. Originally designed for a tuberculosis sanatorium in Paimio, Finland, it is widely regarded as one of Aalto's most impressive works. A Finnish architect and designer, Aalto's adherence to the principles of functional design informed his work and contributed to his international success. He viewed each building as a complete work of art, down to the furniture and lighting fixtures. His furniture designs combined practicality and aesthetics with mass production, promoting a more beautiful everyday life in the home.
