The Pietra Serena 'Inca' console table, designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper in 1978, is a stunning update to the previous "Eros" system. Crafted from extra-strong stone (initially using Pietra Serena sandstone with a sanded finish, perfect for both indoor and outdoor settings), the 'Inca' range features square-shaped tops and truncated-pyramid shaped legs with a trapezoidal section. This innovative design ensures that only the two sloping planes bear the weight of the top, while the vertical planes play no role in the structural system. Angelo Mangiarotti, a celebrated figure in the 20th century Italian design world, was a visionary and versatile designer who not only upheld the tenets of the Modern Movement but also pushed past them with his groundbreaking and imaginative designs. In essence, he was a combination of several pioneering designers, including Mies van der Rohe, Jean Prouvé, and Constantine Brancusi, blending their techniques with modern construction technology.
