Angelo Mangiarotti, who was born in Milan, completed his architecture studies at the Milan Polytechnic in 1948. In 1953, he was awarded a visiting professorship at the Illinois Institute of Technology, which marked the beginning of his academic career that spanned across various Italian institutions and extended all the way to Hawaii and Australia. During his prolific career, Mangiarotti collaborated with renowned architects such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Walter Gropius, all of whom greatly inspired him. In 1955, he returned to Italy and continued working on industrial projects while simultaneously dedicating himself to design. This coffee table is the embodiment of Mangiarotti's unwavering commitment to achieving a perfect harmony between form and practicality, making it a truly one-of-a-kind piece. In excellent condition, the table includes an internal compartment that is 1.6 inches deep from the base of the table itself.
