The prestigious Karhula-IIttala Glass Design Competition, held in 1936 to determine which pieces would represent Finland at the 1937 Paris World Expo, awarded its top prize to Alvar Aalto's legendary Savoy vase. Aalto had crafted this stunning, curving vase for the luxurious Savoy restaurant in Helsinki, which was set to open the following year, and it went on to become one of the most iconic glass creations of the 20th century, popularly known as the Aalto vase. Made of double cased white glass, the vase also features an elegant acid-etched signature of Alvar Aalto on its base.
