The Alvar Aalto Model 31 armchair in birch with a cowskin upholstery is a rare find, but the overall impression is truly exceptional. This armchair was included in the collection designed by the renowned architect during his time constructing a tuberculosis sanitarium in Paimio, Finland between 1929-33. The armchair is a free cantilever design, utilizing curved plywood in a manner not previously seen in the furniture industry. The plywood seat and back are suspended between two U-shaped loops made of thick plywood laminate, taking the innovative design beyond the limits of Aalto's earlier "Paimio" model. Overall, the armchair is a beautiful addition to any interior space.
