On February 11, 1947, the furniture designed by Alvar and Aino Aalto resurfaced in post-war Europe through the grand opening of Finsven. This importer showcased their designs in a small showroom located at 925 Madison Ave, New York. This particular "Hallway Chair" dates back to that era, boasting a Finsven mark and a beautiful, aged patina from being gently used for decades. What's interesting about this chair is that, instead of the typical curved bent wood frame found in Aalto's signature designs, it utilizes finger joints to create a solid, cuboid shape for the plywood to rest on, much like a sheet of paper. This piece radiates warmth and character, embodying everything one could desire from a chair of this caliber. Overall, it remains in excellent original condition, although some minor blemishes consistent with its age and use can be seen in the accompanying photos.
