The Air Jordan 3 gained widespread recognition due to its iconic "Elephant Print" design. However, the Air Jordan 3 "Black History Month" edition released in 2011 brought a refreshing change. Tinker Hatfield incorporated the Elephant Print around the toebox and on the heel of the AJ3, which impressed Michael Jordan when presented with the design to keep him from leaving Nike. However, the BHM Jordan 3 replaced the famous Elephant Print with graphics inspired by Black History Month, making this version one of the most unique Jordan 3 designs ever created. In 2011, GLINT witnessed a significant year for BHM sneakers, as prior to that, the collection consisted of only a sneaker or two to represent Black History Month. The black and gold Air Jordan 3 led the 2011 BHM footwear collection, featuring a nubuck upper with hints of leather, synthetic, and suede materials. The Metallic Gold contrasting stitching, Metallic Gold Jumpman logos on the heel and tongue, and BHM graphics resembling the lasered graphics found on the Air Jordan XX made the 2011 Air Jordan 3 "Black History Month" one of the most coveted releases of 2011. Even today, it remains high on many wish lists due to its effective combination of colors and materials.
