The success of the Air Jordan 3 "Doernbecher" upon its initial release in December of 2010 was no surprise, considering how popular the shoe has always been. Cole Johanson participated in the annual OHSU Doernbecher Freestyle program and used the Air Jordan 3 to tell his story through the design. The DB3 design features a tonal red upper with Cole's name subtly spelled out within the diamond grid pattern. His favorite foods, spaghetti and chocolate, were also included behind the heel tabs on the Jordan 3 Retro. The insoles of the Doernbecher Jordan 3 are inscribed with the two things Cole utilized to beat his lymphoma, Strength and Courage. The DB Jordan 3 sold out instantly during its initial release, as we have come to expect from most OHSU Doernbecher Freestyle designs. However, Nike re-released the Jordan 3 Doernbecher in 2013 on their website and at select Nike stores during the era of online releases that was characterized by the usage of bots. Not long after the release, Nike cancelled an unknown number of orders. Nevertheless, despite the restock/re-release, the Air Jordan 3 "Doernbecher" remains one of the priciest and most sought-after Air Jordan 3 colorways, with collectors and celebrities often spotted wearing them.
