If you're old enough to remember the release of the movie Space Jam, then it's highly likely that the Air Jordan 11 (XI) with the same name is included in your list of favorite sneakers. The film, which premiered in the fall of 1996, featured Michael Jordan, Bill Murray, Bugs Bunny, and other Looney Tunes characters taking on the Mon-Stars. Thanks to Michael Jordan's buzzer-beating half-court dunk, Space Jam Jordans became iconic. The zoomed-in shot of the Jordan 11 colorway as MJ took flight almost immortalized it as it wasn't an original release. While Michael Jordan did wear Space Jams on the court during the Chicago Bulls' record-breaking 72-10 season, the public had to wait until 2000 when it was released as a retro model to get their hands on these Jordans. The release of the Space Jam colorway in 2000 marked the first time a Jordan 11 retro was available. Collectors and MJ fans queued for days before the release to get their hands on the black patent leather sneakers, which were paired with the Varsity Royal Blue Jumpman logo and a translucent outsole. The Space Jam Jordan 11 was also the first time XIs were available during the holiday season, paving the way for the chaos that now surrounds the annual Jordan 11 Mid holiday release. The Air Jordan 11 Space Jam is also responsible for Jordan Brand moving from Wednesday releases to Saturday releases, as parents complained about their children skipping school to get a hold of them.
