. A set of ten "Monk" chairs by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Molteni, crafted in Italy in 1974. Featuring a unique support structure made up of two solid wood trestles joined together by shaped metal tubing, creating a seamless design for the seat and back. The connection of the two structural elements is highlighted by the use of burnished steel hubs and bolts. The canvas surfacing is carefully shaped for comfortable sitting, available in two covering options with an additional solution offered as well. The composite trestles are composed of alternating light wood layers, a motif later used in the 'Artona' series. Afra Bianchin and Tobia Scarpa were ground-breaking designers with a prolific partnership that started in 1957. Collaborating with prominent manufacturers such as Gavina, B&B Italia, and Cassina, the duo continuously experimented with different materials and shapes. Their works are on display in many prestigious museums worldwide, including the MoMa in New York and the Musée du Louvre in Paris. Our atelier meticulously restored these chairs, showcasing the signs of time and use in a tasteful manner.
