Italian designers Afra and Tobia Scarpa created a stunning pair of 'Artona' nightstands, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship. Comprising of two smaller cabinets connected by metal hinges, each nightstand has four compartments for storing personal effects. The beautiful walnut woodwork includes inlaid dark lines that resemble ebony, expertly visible on the edges of the panels. Equipped with two wheels on each side, the nightstands are very mobile. Their 'Artona' bed features striking geometrical shapes that give it a stable construction, with delicate lines on the walnut frame adding an aesthetically pleasing decorative touch. The luxurious appeal is enhanced with the leather border of the platform. Interestingly, the Artona line was Maxalto's first production line, developed by the Scarpa duo as a counter-message to the widespread use of plastics during the postwar period. Afra and Tobia studied architecture at the Venice Institute of Architecture and opened their own design office in 1960. They have designed for many major Italian and international companies, including Flos, Gavina, B&B Italia, Cassina, and Knoll International.
