The Soriana sofa, crafted by Afra and Tobia Scarpa and produced by Cassina in 1969, boasts its original brown leather upholstery and is in excellent vintage condition. This piece received the prestigious 1970 Compasso d'Oro award and remains one of the duo's most notable endeavors. The Scarpa's designed Soriana after their previous successful works, the 924 lounge chair, 121 chairs, and Ciprea armchair, and utilized innovative polyurethane foam molding techniques to reimagine the traditional sofa design. The concept behind Soriana involves wrapping wool with a cloth to create a formless shape, attaching it with an external steel clamp, and resting it atop a small wooden base. Originally intended as a lounge chair, Soriana's popularity led to the creation of a range of seating options that continue to inspire designers today. The Compasso d'Oro prize celebrates Soriana's remarkable simplicity and consistency in achieving a complex image, securing its place as an icon in the design world.
