This set of six black leather dining chairs by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina from 1965 are the epitome of both iconic and charming design. The Scarpa's trademark double trestle structure with a rounded joint is present in this particular model, alongside a minimalist and straightforward cubical volume design. The anatomically shaped surfaces of the slender supports contrast with the seat and back, which are shaped in comfortable plywood and attached by bolts to center crosspieces. The back boasts a necessary cut in the lower part due to the presence of a reinforcement that reacts to torsion stress. Afra Bianchin and Tobia Scarpa began their creative partnership back in 1957 and collaborated with reputable companies, such as B&B Italia, Gavina, and Cassina, from 1960. Exhibiting innovation and unconventionality in their work, they frequently merged different materials and shapes to produce numerous eye-catching designs. Their creations grace exhibitions in various museums globally, including the MoMa in New York and the Musée du Louvre in Paris. Our atelier has meticulously restored the chairs, allowing slight signs of wear and tear to add character and authenticate their vintage value.
