Arne Jacobsen, a Danish architect and furniture designer, created the well-known Model 3100 chair in 1951, also known as the Ant Chair due to its shape. Jacobsen was an accomplished designer, having founded his own agency in 1930 and later becoming a professor of architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Art. His minimalist style can be described as functionalistic, always prioritizing function over form. Some of his famous designs include the de Mier dining chairs, the Swan and the Egg armchairs. Jacobsen's architectural designs include St. Catherine's College in Oxford and the SAS Hotel in Copenhagen. He drew inspiration from prominent figures of his time, such as Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and Bauhaus, and in turn influenced many future designers himself. A testament to Jacobsen's synergy between interior design and architecture can be seen in the design of the Nationalbank headquarters in Copenhagen. He collaborated with Vola to create a collection of modular sanitary fittings and accessories that remain popular and relevant to this day, while adhering to contemporary standards without compromising the aesthetic value of the original design. Originally designed as a three-pot chair, the Ant Chair was later modified with four legs and continues to be a much sought-after piece, particularly those from the early design years.
